Happy New Year everyone!!! May all your weight loss dreams come true!!

For the next three months, I will be focusing on FIGS. A healthy, and yummy fruit. I will also, as from February, post some delicious recipes on my website with Figs as the main ingredient.

Figs belong to the mulberry family. A fig tree can live for up to 100 years. The color, texture and sweetness of figs differ according to the variety. There are three types of edible figs.

Figs are beneficial to your health in the following ways:

➢ Enhances your digestive system

➢ Lowers cholesterol

➢ Treats anemia – condition where the blood does not have enough red blood cells

➢ Prevents colon and breast cancer

➢ Relieves a sore throat

➢ Improves cardiac health

➢ Lowers your blood sugar

➢ Treats asthma

➢ Regulates blood pressure

➢ Treats hypertension

Figs have over a long period of time, been used as a laxative. Figs rely on an enzyme that reacts in the bowl, rather than fiber to achieve the desired effect. Even the sap of figs can be used to curled milk for a primitive type of cheese.

Figs contain limited calories but offer vitamins (A, E, and k), minerals, and soluble fiber. Fresh figs are a good source of carotenes, tannins, lutein and chlorogenic acid. Together, these compounds help to remove harmful free radicals from the body and protect against infections, diabetes, cancer, and degenerative disease.
